Abigail Newlon

Yoga & Running Coach

Rooted in Running | Meet Abi

Coach Abi started running for the same reason as many many of you- a way to get outside during quarantine. With dance spaces closed, and zoom screens always open, she sought a new version of long form movement that not only gave her a taste of fresh air, but made her feel completely and wholly engaged. Over the course of a few years, what started as “can I run 5 miles without stopping” turned into her first half marathon and an entirely new community of friends.

Since then, Abi has found a way to combine her love for movement, passion for physical wellbeing, and natural tendency towards education into a big part of her career. As one of Coach Marina’s first athletes, she had a chance to understand the value of coaching during a time when she knew she wanted to get better but didn’t know how. A focus on the entire person (not just the athlete) + the knowledge that the plan was uniquely curated is what brought her to Inner Lane, and are the same values that made Abi a coach herself.

Coach Abi sees running as a way to explore: explore her environment, her physical capabilities, and her willingness to challenge herself. It gives her a deeper connection to herself and a deeper connection to her community. And through coaching, she hopes to support her athletes in doing the same.

The Inner Lane Approach / Coaching Style

My philosophy is that training is about way more than the running itself. Training helps us create a holistic view of our lives. How to push, how to prioritize, how to get uncomfortable. How to care, how to recover, how to grow. How to dedicate time to what we love.

As your coach, my goal is to help you reach your goals, whether that's preparing for a race, returning to movement after injury, or finding a way to train that simply feels good. I don't believe in cookie-cutter plans that look great on paper but don't reflect the reality of the person following them. Your training should fit your life, not the other way around.

At my core, I'm a teacher and a creative. I want my athletes to understand the ‘why’ behind their training so they can make informed decisions and feel confident in the process. The athletes who work best with me are curious. They trust the plan, ask questions, and speak up about what they're experiencing. My role is to guide them with honesty, flexibility, and care, so they can enjoy the process as much as the outcome, whatever that outcome may be.
